Canuck Corner With Natalie Waples #39
Hello everyone and welcome 2014! I hope you all had a safe, enjoyable holiday season and are now ready to tackle a new year and new goals!
They say that January can be one of the most depressing months of the year, but YOU certainly have the power to choose to see the glass as half empty or half full - I choose half full! Despite going over budget on holiday gifts (who doesn't??), attempting to see all my loved ones (thank goodness for Skype!), 2013 went out with a bang in all the best ways. I was very happy to have earned a sponsorship from Liquid Sun Rayz www.liquidsunrayz.com , as well as Tamee Marie Suits http://tameemarie.webs.com , was officially announced as part of the new Team PVL http://www.pvl.com/index.php , and last but certainly not least, made the cut for the Arnold Classic 2014! For the second year I will be representing Canada on the prestigious Figure International stage amongst the world's best, as well as many fellow Figure Olympians & FMG teammates (Nicole Wilkins, Candice Keene, Candice Lewis, Heather Dees, Ann Titone, Camala Rodriguez, Ava Cowen, Gen Strobo, Alicia Coates and Allison Frahn). I would also like to congratulate fellow Canadians Justine Munro, Ryall Vasani, Myriam Capes, Danielle Ruban and Ben Pakulski on their invites to the Arnold Classic ~ Go Team Canada!
So as my Arnold prep starts to kick into gear, I am also getting ready for a two day video shoot for my amazing Canadian sponsor PVL, as well as a fun trip down to Las Vegas to see Britney Spears in concert! Yes contest prep is serious stuff, but as long as you're organized you can still enjoy 95% of the things life has to offer and get into kick butt shape at the same time :) On the home front I've been killing my gym workouts, trying out some crossfit, and am meeting some amazing new people. Training for figure is very autonomous, so I really enjoy the team atmosphere that crossfit offers, while simultaneously being super competitive! And these people are in amazing shape! It always surprises me how many Figure/Bikini/WPD competitors look like they don't even lift in their off season -- does that scream athlete to you? This new breed of athletes is strong, agile, fit and healthy. An impressive combination!
Fittingly, this would not be a January blog without a couple New Year's resolutions, so here goes:
-commit to reading one new book bimonthly
-ensure I get home 4 times this year to see my parents
-book at least one, international, 'non-fitness' trip
Doesn't sound too complicated, but the simple things are those I tend to push aside and I need to pay more attention. What are your goals or resolutions for 2014?
For those of you who are attending (or thinking of attending) the upcoming Arnold Sports Festival, you can find information for all the events, tickets and more at www.arnoldsportsfestival.com and as always there will be amazing coverage by www.npcnewsonline.com and live webcasts by www.bodybuilding.com This year the Pro Figure will be held all on one day, with prejudging on Friday February 28th at noon EST, and the finals at 7pm EST that same night.
Stay warm this month folks and I will check back in come February with a spicy new workout for glutes, a healthy recipe, and more fun industry news.
Eat, Sleep, Train, Repeat!
