It wasn’t that long ago when I was presenting a nutrition and training seminar outside of Baltimore, Maryland, where I noticed a tall steely-eyed blonde woman in the back of the audience.
When my presentation ended she approached me to thank me for the information provided during my talk and I instantly recognized her potential as a competitor. She had great muscularity and rock-hard condition – teetering between the Female Bodybuilding and Women’s Physique criteria. It wasn’t long after that first brief meeting that the woman, whom I later learned was Donna McGinn, earned the title of IFBB Women’s Physique Pro.
Sculpting a world class physique is an art form. And the great artist and the great athlete have one very important thread interwoven throughout their tapestry of success: efficiency. The great artist uses the same pencils and paint brushes, and makes the same straight lines on a canvas as you and I; only they do it more efficiently. They’re able to blend those lines and brush strokes together while creating a message and a masterpiece capable of speaking volumes, while our picture might only be worth a thousand words.

Nowhere is the global expansion of bodybuilding more apparent than at large scale events that feature a diverse lineup of international competitors like the Arnold Classic and Arnold Amateur events.
They say life is all about choices. It’s about the decisions we make that ultimately decide who we’ll become and where we’ll end up. However I believe that sometimes it’s the things in life that we don’t chose that have the greatest impact. It’s the moments of cosmic or divine intervention that come crashing into our lives without any warning that ultimately become the moments that auto-correct our course without us having any say whatsoever. And sometimes, like in the case of emerging female bodybuilding star Margie Martin, those moments lead us into a world we only could’ve envisioned in our wildest dreams.
