Canuck Corner With Natalie Waples: #28
Well it’s that time of year again – holiday parties, visits with friends and family, and lots of snow! It is also the time of year that the IFBB/NPC takes a bit of a show break, and begins gearing up for the 2014 season…very exciting! The week before Christmas will mark the release of the 2014 Arnold Classic pro invite list -- hundreds of pros will apply to have a place on the prestigious Arnold Sports Festival stage, so as you can guess, it is a very selective and competitive process. Personally I feel that this year is going to be one of the hardest the Arnold Selection Committee has seen in regards to Pro Figure. I competed in 8 shows during the 2013 season (including the Arnold and the Olympia) and the calibre of athletes on the circuit right now is incredible.
This month also marked the official announcement of my new partnership with PVL www.pvl.com ! This Canadian supplement company makes extraordinary products and I am really excited with the direction the brand is taking. I am teamed up with Canadian Fitness Personality/former NFL football player Tommy Europe, along with fellow Canadian IFBB Pro Erin Harding, as the new Team PVL J In November we did a series of shots at XClub Fitness in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia (just 30 minutes from Vancouver) and in the new year we will be shooting videos, attending trade shows, and more! You can check out my PVL athlete profile here http://www.pvl.com/athletes/nataliewaples.php
I have also discovered a new workout that I absolutely love… crossfit! One of my friends encouraged me to attend a class with her and it kicked my butt! Now it will not be able to replace my time in the gym, but it is an insane workout and I am meeting a whole new group of people who personify strength, endurance, comradory and athletics -- it’s great! I attended a crossfit competition this past weekend and I can tell you that the work these athletes put in is incredible!
So now that I’ve talked a bit about training, I figure it only fitting to address that oh so present topic of food! Here is a an easy no bake recipe for protein bars, and you can use your favourite chocolate or vanilla whey protein powder to make it! This may not be an entrée, but it makes for a great finger food when you cut it up into small squares. Who said holiday parties have to be unhealthy?
Ingredients:
2 cups dry oatmeal
4 scoops whey protein powder ( I use PVL Essentials Creamy Vanilla Sport Whey)
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
1/3 cup of water or milk
Directions:
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, and then press into a 9-by-9 inch pan lined with wax paper. Freeze for 40 minutes and cut into bars.
Since these bars have a good amount of healthy fat, they are best used when you’re not preparing to exercise or recovering from your session, when fat should be avoided.
Have a safe and happy holiday season everyone – see you in 2014!
