The First NPC Nationals
Thirty-one years ago, a new bodybuilding organization called the National Physique Committee (NPC) began promoting bodybuilding competitions in the United States. The NPC was created to work with the International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB) to provide an amateur organization of the United States to work in conjunction with the biggest bodybuilding organization in the world.
1984 Mr. Olympia – A New King Arrives, Part 1
If there was ever a contest that included a combination of the old guard and the new blood, it was the 1984 Mr. Olympia. This historic event included three Mr. Olympia winners in the competitors list as well as a line-up that looked like a Who’s Who of some of the greatest bodybuilders from the 1970s and 80s.
“Pumping Iron” vs “Generation Iron”
When it was announced last year that a new “Pumping Iron” was being made, I rolled my eyes after hearing the news. “Pumping Iron” was released way back in 1977 and, since the release of that soon to be classic film, there has always been talk of another “Pumping Iron”. In the movie “Casino”, Robert DeNiro portrays a character that was based on the true life story of Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, a gambling mastermind who ran Las Vegas for the mob for many years. Rosenthal was a genius at picking the winning team or individual in a sporting event. He would study every aspect of the players involved, the coaches, the weather conditions, the playing field, the trends, etc, etc.
