2011 is only one week old and the bodybuilding news stories are already rolling into the Rx Muscle media studios. My first report of the New Year is chock filled with medical drama ranging from the life-threatening to the life-saving. I'm happy to say, despite some drama, both stories have a very happy ending.
DJ's New Tattoo
IFBB Pro Dennis James recently retired from competitive bodybuilding. He made the announcement in quite a dramatic fashion on the 2010 Olympia stage, and it may just have proved to be one of the most emotional and moving moments of the weekend. Since then, he's been enjoying his retirement... Eating whatever, training at a somewhat lower intensity, and getting tattoos! Dennis' first tattoo was done by Justin Kramer at Gold Tooth Tattoo in Glendale, AZ . . . . It's a portrait of his daughter. No further explanation is necessary!
Yesterday IFBB Pro Toney Freeman made an appearance in Sundsvall, Sweden that he won't soon forget. The X-Man flew in, freshened up at his hotel, then arrived at the appearance he was scheduled to make. Less than 30 minutes later, uniformed police entered the premises and took Toney into custody. [ed note. Freeman was never, at any time, placed under arrest] I spoke to Toney earlier and he said, "I thought I was being punked... it had to be some sort of practical joke." As Toney soon found out, it wasn't a joke.
On Monday Night’s HEAVY MUSCLE RADIO show, 2x Arnold Strongman Champion Derek Poundstone officially announced that he’ll be competing in the December 11th Bros vs Pros 5 Deadlift Rematch. Poundstone is still recovering from a quad tear, but claims that it was one of Dave Palumbo’s posts on the Rx Muscle Forums-- doubting Poundstone’s ability to win Bros vs Pros with ease—that prompted him to enter this Saturday’s challenge.
In his radio interview, Poundstone commented that he was hesitant to enter the contest because he didn’t want to erase all hope of someone else winning, but Dave immediately countered and pointed out that this is even more of a reason for a gym “bro” to enter. And I have to agree. I mean, how awesome would it be to say that you beat Derek Poundstone, arguably the world’s strongest man, at his own game?
No more kefetching, The Yuckmouth Yenta is back! From this point forward you'll be getting weekly updates regarding behind-the-scenes news and gossip in bodybuilding and fitness industry.
Return Of The Legends
By now most of you have probably heard the rumblings about a new master's invitational show, IFBB World Masters Championship, set to take place on December 10, 2011 (http://www.jarkasgym.com). When I first heard about it, I was admittedly skeptical. In the last year or so I've seen and heard about so many potential contests in places such as Dubai, Japan, Germany, etc... that were canceled for some unknown reason. . . that whenever I hear about a new big show with tons of prize money, doubt is the first emotion to cross my doubting mind.
