PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA (January 30, 2013) - The National Physique Committee and Gaspari Nutrition have named Michael VanLeeuwen, Rene Marven, Corinna Booth, Maura Bouchard, Gerald Pressley, Ginger Martin and Kristine Duba Athletes of the Month for the month of October.

Each month, NPC President Jim Manion selects the Athletes of the Month in each of the organization’s seven divisions – Men’s and Women’s Bodybuilding, Figure, Bikini, Fitness and Men’s and Women’s Physique – based on in-person analysis and on the information provided by contest promoters across the country and featured in the NPC News Online Contest Roundups.

A-Rod and Others Named in New MLB PED Report

 


A man in south Florida supplied performance-enhancing drugs to more than half a dozen major league players, including Alex Rodriguez, according to a Miami New Times report that officials at Major League Baseball believe will grow into a doping scandal that could rival the BALCO case that tarnished Barry Bonds.

Alex Rodriguez is once again at the center of a possible PED scandal. The newspaper reported Tuesday morning that Anthony Bosch, a self-styled biochemist seen frequently in Latin American baseball circles, distributed large amounts of human growth hormone, synthetic testosterone and other cocktails of PEDs to players who previously had not been linked, such as Texas Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz.

You get to hang out all day, go to the gym whenever you want, fly all over the world for contests, guest appearances, and seminars, and let’s not forget bang hot little fitness chicks. Sounds like the life, huh? Well, what about all of the b.s. and headache that comes with being a bodybuilder; you know, the stuff they don’t write about in the magazines? The stuff they never tell the 16 year old kid down at GNC who’s buying another tub of NoXplode. Let’s face it, when you take off the posing oil and step out of the gym, life isn’t as cool as you might think for a bodybuilder.

Phil Heath's Nightmare

DSC 2945 CWNJDLJXDGLike him or not Phil Heath, “The Gift,” must be on a mental high right now and deservedly so. Phil has quickly climbed the mountain of success in bodybuilding that few have even approached, and he has done so in an unprecedented fashion. "The Gift" did what many felt impossible at the time by defeating the Goliath of Jay Cutler in a similar fashion to the way Jay did Ronnie in 2006. As someone in his position how could you not feel good about yourself and confident in your status given the circumstances it took to get there, and the fact that you were able to achieved it, it in this case a task only 12 other men have accomplished.
